Dr. Monga received his MBBS from University of Delhi, India in 1995 and went on to complete his post-graduation in Internal Medicine (MD) from the same university in 1999. University of Delhi is one of the most prestigious universities in the country and getting into medical school is among the toughest in the world. After having worked in New Delhi as an internist for a few years, he decided to call Singapore home in 2003 when he started work with Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He attained MRCP-UK in 2005 and pursued his specialist training in Gastroenterology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Dr. Monga was accredited as a specialist in Gastroenterology in 2009 and received his Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2013. He was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan scholarship by Ministry of Health, Singapore in 2010 and completed a fellowship in advanced therapeutic endoscopy and ERCP at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG), India. AIG is one of the few centers of excellence and the only one in South Asia as accorded by the World Endoscopy Organisation. It is one of the largest referral centres in Asia for therapeutic endoscopy and has the credit of doing the largest number of ERCP procedures in the world.
Dr. Monga joined Raffles hospital, Singapore in November 2014 and was handling all the advanced endoscopic procedures there for more than 5 years. He is still a visiting consultant at Raffles hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Singapore. Apart from general Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Dr. Monga has a special interest in advanced therapeutic endoscopy, having numerous ERCPs, esophageal, duodenal and colonic stents under his belt.
Dr Monga is also an enthusiastic teacher and was awarded the Yong Loo Lin Medical School Dean’s award for teaching excellence for the year 2008-09. He played an active role in teaching the future generation of medical students and was a core faculty in the post-graduate residency program in Gastroenterology. He has a number of publications in various indexed journals and was an invited faculty at GI Hep 2013 to 2018 and SHOLEC 2014 and 2015. In addition, he was awarded Excellent Service Award by Spring Singapore in 2005, 2006 and 2009 and Service Champion Award by the National Healthcare Group. While at Raffles hospital, he was awarded the Chairman’s award for service excellence in 2019.
